The Study on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the outermost regions provides a comprehensive analysis of how the pandemic has affected the EU’s outermost regions, which include French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint-Martin (France), Azores and Madeira (Portugal), and the Canary Islands (Spain). It examines pandemic’s impact in three areas: health, economic and social impact. First of all, the pandemic significantly strained healthcare systems in the outermost regions, exacerbating existing challenges due to their geographical isolation and limited resources. Secondly, the outermost regions experienced severe economic downturns, with key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and fisheries being heavily affected. Also, it intensified social inequalities, with vulnerable populations, including low-income families and the elderly, being disproportionately affected.

Additionally, the study outlines various EU, national, and regional measures implemented to support recovery, including financial aid, social support programs, and initiatives to boost economic resilience.
