The Council of the European Union adopted a set of conclusions on Tourism in Europe for the Next Decade. The document outlines a vision for a tourism sector that is economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. The Council emphasizes the importance of reviving tourism post-COVID-19 by leveraging EU funding opportunities and developing health and safety protocols. The document was approved on May 27, 2021, and Member States, the Commission, and stakeholders are encouraged to work together to enhance the tourism industry.

Key highlights include:

Sustainability and Resilience: Emphasis on sustainable tourism practices and building resilience against future crises.
Digital Transformation: Promoting digital tools and technologies to enhance tourism services and experiences.
Economic and Social Impact: Supporting tourism SMEs and micro-enterprises to drive economic growth and job creation.
Education and Skills: Focusing on quality education, skills development, and lifelong learning for tourism professionals.
Green Transition: Encouraging eco-friendly practices and aligning with the European Green Deal objectives.

The strategy includes a Multiannual Work Plan to achieve these goals, ensuring the EU remains a top global tourist destination.
