KannaLab is currently developing a farm-to-fiber model for industrial hemp in Eastern Slovakia, combining cultivation on our own farm with land restoration and applied research. Our work focuses on sustainable hemp farming practices adapted to marginal soils, and on connecting this primary production with fiber processing and textile innovation anchored locally in Košice.
We are looking for partners interested in joining this effort particularly in the areas of textile processing, circular bioeconomy, rural regeneration, low-impact agriculture, and sustainable materials. We welcome collaboration with research institutions, industry players, design labs, social innovators, and regional development actors. Together, we aim to create a resilient and scalable value chain rooted in local ecosystems and knowledge.

Future of fashion starts with the seed
Farm
The agricultural core of the project is based on our own hemp cultivation in Eastern Slovakia, where we are testing and adapting agronomic practices suited for industrial fiber production. This includes trials on seed varieties, soil regeneration techniques, and low-input farming methods tailored to marginal or degraded land. The goal is to reintroduce hemp as a viable rotation crop that supports biodiversity, improves soil health, and creates new opportunities for local farmers. Our approach combines traditional knowledge with field-based research to develop scalable, regionally relevant cultivation models.
Fiber
In addition to field-based cultivation, KannaLab is an active partner in the DOPE Consortium, a collaborative initiative focused on developing novel hemp-derived fibers using innovative processing methods. As part of this effort, we contribute by testing processed fibers for textile applications, working alongside our partners Ambra (IT), Linnaeus (GE). This partnership expands our role from raw material production to active involvement in fiber innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
