The Future Rail Tourism (FRT) 2025 project, funded by the International Union of Railways (UIC), aims to identify key factors shaping the future of rail tourism, focusing on lifestyle changes, environmental considerations, technological advancements, improved connectivity and transport governance reforms. By enhancing intermodal connectivity and promoting sustainable travel, the project supports European sustainability goals and fosters collaboration among stakeholders. Running from January, 2024, to December, 2026, its primary objective is to leverage the resilience of leisure train services to meet the growing demand for sustainable rail-based tourism, addressing challenges such as intermodality, cross-border services and affordability.
