The Horizon Europe project 'Interoperable Solutions to Streamline Positive Energy District Evolution and Cross-Sectoral Integration' aims to facilitate the development and integration of positive energy districts (PEDs) within urban environments. PEDs are urban areas that produce at least as much energy annually as they consume, emphasising local renewable energy production, energy efficiency, and smart energy management.

The project focuses on creating digital solutions that enable various stakeholders to collaborate effectively. By standardising data formats and communication protocols, the project seeks to ensure integration across different sectors and systems.

Said interoperability is crucial for optimising energy flows, enhancing demand-response capabilities, and facilitating the scaling of PEDs across Europe.

Seven interoperable solutions will be developed: (1) PED Design and Planning Toolset, (2) Dynamic Decision Support Guideline for PED Development, (3) PED Energy Manager, (4) Data Exchange, Integration and Interoperability Platform, (5) PED Business Models Innovation Tool, (6) Social Innovation Tool, and (7) PED Readiness Assessment. Three demonstrators, located in Germany, Slovenia, and Switzerland, are partnering in the consortium from the beginning as co-developers of the solutions.

The final purpose of the project is to create replicable models for PEDs that can be implemented across various European cities.
