Resilient communities can be shaped in countless ways through various citizen interventions. This session will dive into local case studies from both urban and rural contexts, showcasing how we can revitalise our spaces by fostering community building, encouraging citizen participation, supporting employment creation, and facilitating information-sharing.

A key concept underpinning this session is the proximity economy, which emphasises the importance of local production and consumption patterns, local interactions and relationships in fostering economic growth and community wellbeing.

Hear from inspiring speakers who will share their experiences through engaging case studies:

  • The first presentation will focus on neighbourhood revitalisation initiatives implemented by the Greater Paris Metropolis, to create more balanced and inclusive city centres, support people seeking employment and connect them to resources and local businesses.
  • The second presentation will focus on the revitalisation of rural areas, specifically on the Peloponnese Trails, a 1,730km certified hiking network connecting 12 major routes and dozens of traditional villages in rural Greece. We will deep dive into the territorial impact of this initiative, discussing how it positively affected proximity production, local citizen participation, and climate-aware tourism models.

Then, we’ll break into interactive breakout groups to delve deeper into these cases, allowing you to share your insights and ask questions.

This event is part of the technical sessions hosted through the EU Proximity and Social Economy Platform. These collaborative and interactive peer-learning events begin with best practices and are followed by discussions in smaller groups. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to connect and inspire change in your community!
