Coral Soul is a Spanish-based marine conservation association devoted to restoring deep coral reefs and educating communities about marine ecosystems. Their mission blends science, activism, and environmental stewardship. The team, composed of marine scientists and expert divers, works hands-on with local stakeholders to restore underwater habitats, raise public awareness, and train new generations in marine protection.

The association operates several key programmes. The Deep Core Project, launched in Granada with support from Coral Guardian and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, rehabilitates coral damaged by marine litter. The approach includes coral nursery development, reef repopulation with recovered fragments, and in-depth ecosystem monitoring. Moreover, waste is actively removed from marine protected areas (MPAs) to improve environmental quality and resilience.

In Italy, Coral Soul co-leads the Sardegna Coral Restoration initiative in the Maddalena Archipelago and Tavolara MPAs. The programme investigates the effects of thermal stress on deep coral species and develops early-warning systems to detect climate-related disturbances. Collaboration with academic institutions like the University of Cádiz and CSIC enhances scientific rigour.

Coral Soul’s education arm, Descubriendo los Corales, conducts outreach in schools and universities, helping people connect emotionally and intellectually with marine life. Using virtual reality and active learning tools, they provide inclusive, curriculum-aligned sessions to cultivate environmental responsibility and critical thinking. Their methodology combines TICs, gamification, and hands-on exploration to instil a conservation ethic.

From technical coral rehabilitation to fostering inclusive environmental literacy, Coral Soul demonstrates that marine conservation can unite science, education, and community-led action to protect our shared seas.
