The Commission's flash estimate for July 2026 shows EU consumer confidence rising to -15.1 (up 1.9 points on June) and euro area confidence rising to -15.9 (up 1.7 points), marking a third consecutive monthly improvement.

Despite the recent upward trend, confidence in both the EU and euro area remains below its long-term average, suggesting a gradual rather than a decisive recovery in household sentiment. The Economic Sentiment Indicator, which also covers retail trade, showed a similar modest improvement in the prior month's data.
For a sector highly exposed to discretionary consumer spending, this slow but steady improvement in sentiment offers a cautiously encouraging signal for the months ahead.
