In The AI Continent: Action Plan, the European Commission presents a bold and forward-looking strategy to establish Europe as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence. As AI begins to transform key sectors of the economy and society, the EU seeks to harness its potential to boost innovation, improve public services, and address critical challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and competitiveness.
The Action Plan outlines a coherent set of measures across five key pillars: accelerating AI uptake in the economy, enhancing public sector adoption, securing world-class AI infrastructure, fostering skills and talent, and ensuring global leadership through cooperation and strategic partnerships. Emphasising a trustworthy and human-centric approach to AI, the Plan integrates Europe’s commitment to fundamental rights, democratic values, and cultural diversity.
This Communication builds on the AI Act and the Coordinated Plan on AI, aiming for swift and coordinated implementation at both Union and national levels. It also identifies priority actions, including scaling up testing and experimentation facilities, facilitating access to high-quality data, promoting responsible AI innovation, and leveraging public procurement to stimulate demand.
By acting with ambition, speed, and foresight, the EU positions itself to shape the future of AI in line with its strategic interests and societal values, ensuring that Artificial Intelligence contributes to inclusive growth, economic resilience, and sustainable technological leadership.
