The European Commission has announced a significant expansion of Europe’s AI infrastructure with six new AI Factories joining the existing network. Located in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Poland, these facilities will provide startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and industry with direct access to AI-optimised supercomputers, technical expertise, and tailored support to develop and deploy advanced AI solutions.
Backed by over €500 million in joint investment from the EU and Member States, this third wave of AI Factories aims to strengthen Europe’s high-performance computing capacity and accelerate the uptake of artificial intelligence across key sectors. In total, the EU and participating EuroHPC countries have committed more than €2.6 billion to the AI Factories and Antennas initiative, marking another step towards realising Europe’s ambition of becoming the AI Continent.
The Commission is also preparing to announce the selection of AI Factory Antennas, which will collaborate closely with AI Factories to provide national AI communities with secure remote access to world-class AI-optimised supercomputing resources. This expansion supports the AI Continent Action Plan and complements ongoing EU investment in future AI Gigafactories (i.e., large-scale facilities focused on developing and training advanced AI models and frontier systems). It also aligns with the Apply AI Strategy to boost the adoption of artificial intelligence across Europe’s economy and public sector.
