Driving Digital and Sustainable Transformation in Türkiye’s Apparel Sector
The EU-funded METAMORPHOSIS project significantly advanced Türkiye’s apparel and textile industry, aligning it with the European Union’s digital and green transformation goals. The Istanbul Apparel Exporters’ Association (İHKİB), in collaboration with national stakeholders, implemented the initiative to enhance the sector's competitiveness through strategic, technological, and sustainable innovation.
The project was built around three core components:
• Strategic Planning and Digital Roadmapping: METAMORPHOSIS developed a comprehensive digital transformation strategy and roadmap for the apparel sector. It assessed 125 manufacturers and design firms, delivering detailed digital maturity reports that helped companies understand their current status and identify growth opportunities, drawing inspiration from EU best practices.
• Capacity Building and Training: The project emphasized capacity building and training by establishing the Digital Transformation Center (DDM) within IMA and İHKİB. This center supported SMEs with tailored digital training, consulting services, and guidance on accessing funding for transformation projects. Over 100 companies participated in specialized programs covering fashion technology, digital design, and social compliance. Additionally, 25 firms received in-depth consulting, helping them adapt innovative technologies and improve their sustainability practices.
• Enhanced Sustainability Testing: METAMORPHOSIS reinforced the role of EKOTEKS, an internationally accredited laboratory, in advancing environmentally friendly practices. It developed new testing methodologies to distinguish Turkish organic cotton and support eco-textile innovations. Training sessions and testing services reached 100 SME representatives, expanding the sector's capacity to meet international sustainability standards.
By combining strategic planning, upskilling, and technical innovation, METAMORPHOSIS created a replicable model for industry transformation, effectively bridging Türkiye's textile sector with the future of European manufacturing.
