The European Commission’s latest Eurobarometer survey shows growing consumer recognition and trust in the EU Ecolabel, the European Union’s voluntary environmental label. The survey found that 81% of European consumers believe EU Ecolabel products have a lower environmental impact than comparable products, up from 75% in 2023. Recognition of the label’s flower logo has also increased, reaching 46% of Europeans, an increase of eight percentage points since 2023.

The survey also points to increased purchasing of eco-labelled products. Around 66% of Europeans say they often or sometimes buy products carrying any eco-label, while 46% report buying products with the EU Ecolabel, also an increase of eight percentage points since 2023. Consumers would like to see the label available across more product categories, with 36% wanting a wider choice of textiles carrying the label. Meanwhile, the EU Ecolabel’s reach continues to grow by September 2026, 121,083 products and services were covered by 3,665 licences, with small and medium-sized enterprises accounting for 62% of licence holders.

The findings highlight opportunities for businesses and retailers to respond to consumer interest in products with credible environmental credentials. The Commission also points to the role of the EU Ecolabel in public procurement, where environmental labels can help public buyers identify products that meet established sustainability criteria.
