The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has been amended by the European parliament to simplify compliance requirements, granting companies additional time and reducing obligations under the law.

Under the new changes, all businesses will now have an extra year to meet the regulation’s obligations: large operators and traders must comply by 30 December 2026, while micro and small enterprises have until 30 June 2027. The amendments also shift the responsibility for submitting the required due diligence to the entities that first place the products on the EU market subsequent traders will no longer need to submit separate declarations. For micro and small primary operators, a one-off simplified declaration will suffice.

The revised rules wrap up a broader simplification review, expected by 30 April 2026, which will assess administrative burdens and determine whether further adjustments are needed.
