The European Commission has launched a call for evidence linked to its upcoming ‘Communication on better regulation’ initiative, inviting industry, business and other stakeholders to provide practical input on how European Union law-making can be improved. The initiative forms part of the Commission’s efforts to strengthen evidence-based policymaking while ensuring EU rules remain effective, proportionate and easier to implement.
The consultation focuses on three key issues. First, it explores how to better reconcile evidence-based policymaking with the need for urgent action in times of crisis or rapid change. Second, it examines how to ensure a more holistic and efficient approach to stakeholder consultations, including improved coordination across different policy fields. Third, it looks at what practical steps could make EU legislation simpler and easier to apply in practice, under the principle of ‘simplicity by design’.
According to the Commission, the initiative supports its wider priorities on competitiveness, regulatory simplification, and the effective implementation of EU rules in the Single Market. Stakeholder feedback gathered through this call for evidence will inform the forthcoming ‘Communication on better regulation’ initiative.
The call for evidence is open until 4 February 2026. For more information and to participate, visit the European Commission ‘Have Your Say’ portal.
