The European Commission has opened a public consultation on how to improve the New Legislative Framework (NLF), the blueprint for EU product legislation that aligns and harmonises 30 existing EU legal acts. The consultation is part of efforts to modernise product rules and better support the circular economy and digital transition across the European Union.
The revision aims to update the NLF to integrate digital solutions, such as the Digital Product Passport, and improve the effectiveness and timeliness of product compliance information. It also looks to address current challenges including regulatory burdens, inadequacies in conformity assessments by notified bodies, and limited consumer understanding of product markings like the Conformité Européenne (CE) mark.
The public consultation is open until 4 February 2026, inviting input from a wide range of stakeholders including national authorities, industry operators, conformity assessment bodies, consumers and civil society. Participants can share their views through the Commission’s Have Your Say portal.
