A recent TEDxAthens talk titled ‘All of Us, Making Again: The Factory of the Future’ highlights a vision for rethinking production systems through circular, local, and socially responsible approaches. Delivered by Dr Fiori A. Zafeiropoulou Fronimopoulou, founder of SOFFA - the Social Fashion Factory and Fashion Revolution Greece, the talk forms part of the TEDx Global Idea Search. It focuses on the role of the fashion industry as a starting point to address broader questions around sustainability, labour, and the future of manufacturing.
The talk brings together a range of interconnected themes, including dignity in work, women’s agency, and the persistence of modern slavery in global supply chains. It also explores how circular and localised production models supported by technologies such as AI can help shift away from linear systems towards more regenerative approaches. A key message is the potential for cities to become ‘makers again’, reconnecting production with communities and enabling more transparent, ethical, and resilient value chains.
The talk underscores the importance of rethinking not only how products are made, but also who benefits from production systems and how they are embedded within society.
