From 2018 to 2022, castles in Eastern Styria and Southern Burgenland (Austria) and Slovenia collaborated through the INTERREG SI-AT “Castle Road” project to develop and market cross-border heritage tourism. This initiative linked castles academically and in tourism, creating cross-border adventure and tourism products. This sustainable cooperation preserves cultural heritage, enhances museum management, and boosts regional tourism by appealing to international tourists and facilitating knowledge exchange.
