In 2023, Italy’s accommodation sector witnessed a total of 447.2 million overnight stays, as reported by Istat. A significant share of these stays, amounting to 28.8%, was recorded in luxury accommodations, including both five-star and four-star hotels. Additionally, four-star hotels alone accounted for 27.9% of the total overnight stays. When it comes to other types of collective lodgings, tourist camp-sites and holiday villages were the most popular, with 15.3% of the total stays, followed by rented holiday dwellings, which comprised 14.1%. Istat, the Italian National Institute of Statistics, offers a comprehensive and regularly updated statistical database that is accessible free of charge. This resource allows users to customize their search criteria and analyze the patterns of guest movements across various types of collective accommodation establishments in Italy.
