In 2023, Italy saw a record 133.6 million tourist arrivals, the highest since 2008, with 447.2 million nights spent. Foreign tourists made up 50.8% of these arrivals, while domestic tourists accounted for 49.2%. Provisional data for May 2024 shows 13.0 million arrivals, a 10.1% increase from May 2023 and 13.9% more than May 2019. Nights spent in May 2024 totaled 38.6 million, up 13.5% from May 2023 and 24.4% from May 2019.
