As the landscape of tourism and hospitality continues to evolve, the demand for skilled professionals is becoming one of the most pressing challenges facing the sector in Europe. In response to this growing concern, the PANTOUR – Pact for Next Tourism Generation Skills initiative is proud to announce an insightful webinar titled “Fast Forward: Tourism and Hospitality Skills that Matter.” This engaging online event is scheduled for March 19, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET, and will gather a diverse group of experts and practitioners from across the European tourism ecosystem.
During this informative session, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the latest findings from the Sectoral Skills Intelligence Monitor, a sophisticated research tool designed to analyse and identify emerging skills needs in the tourism and hospitality industries. Drawing on comprehensive data from surveys, focus groups, and interviews with HR managers and industry leaders, the report reveals how tourism jobs are adapting to the forces of digital transformation, growing sustainability demands, and evolving visitor expectations.
Attendees can expect to gain valuable insights into key trends shaping the sector by 2026. Topics will include the growing importance of digital skills, the need for green competencies, and the development of social capabilities. These skills are becoming indispensable across a wide range of tourism roles, from managing accommodations and destinations to orchestrating tour operations and curating visitor attractions.
Furthermore, the webinar will highlight successful case studies from European companies and organisations that are effectively tackling workforce challenges. These exemplary practices demonstrate innovative approaches to improving staff retention and boosting employability, providing participants with practical strategies they can implement in their own organisations. Join us for this opportunity to equip yourself with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the future of tourism and hospitality.
The programme will include expert presentations and practical examples, including a deep dive into the Skills Intelligence monitoring system presented by experts from Breda University of Applied Sciences. Case studies from several European countries will illustrate how businesses and destinations are integrating new competencies into their operations and training strategies.
For European tourism, the topic is particularly relevant. The sector faces increasing labour shortages, evolving customer expectations and the need to integrate sustainability and digital innovation into everyday operations. Developing the right skills is therefore essential to ensure competitiveness, resilience and quality visitor experiences across Europe.
Initiatives such as PANTOUR build on earlier European projects that address skills gaps and strengthen cooperation between industry, education providers, and public authorities. By providing research, tools and training frameworks, these initiatives support the long-term development of a skilled and adaptable tourism workforce.
Tourism professionals, educators, destination managers and policymakers are encouraged to join the webinar to gain insights into the future of tourism skills and learn how their organisations can prepare for the sector’s ongoing transformation.
