The GreenTour fund is a national incentive scheme promoted by Italy's Ministry of Tourism and managed by Invitalia, the country's agency for economic development. It is designed to support tourism businesses of any size, whether Italian or foreign-owned, provided they are based in Italy and either operate in tourism or, if active for at least three years, can show that tourism activity accounted for more than half of their turnover. Applications may also be submitted jointly by several businesses through a network contract, and property owners can apply using the operational requirements of the businesses that manage their premises.

The fund finances investment plans worth between one and fifteen million euros, with the bulk of the spending, at least 51%, required to go toward improving energy efficiency or generating energy from renewable sources. Alongside this core investment, businesses can also use part of the funding for related measures such as digitalising their operations and supply chains, meeting environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria, introducing automation and smart metering systems to reinforce the impact of energy efficiency measures, and reducing overall energy consumption. Under certain conditions, the cost of consultancy services linked to the investment plan can also be covered.

Financial support is granted as a fixed combination of a non-repayable grant covering 54% of the eligible costs and a subsidised loan covering the remaining 46%, within the limits set by the relevant EU State aid rules. Applications opened online on 15 July 2026 at 12:00 and will remain open until 15 September 2026 at 17:00. This is a national scheme relevant primarily to businesses operating in Italy, and it illustrates how EU State aid frameworks are being used at Member State level to accelerate the green and digital transition of the tourism sector.

The original scheme information is available only in Italian.
