The Council of the EU has adopted new legislation updating EU air passenger rights rules. According to the press release, the framework strengthens passenger protection in cases of cancellation and delay, improves compensation, assistance, communication and rerouting, and clarifies extraordinary circumstances. It also introduces new provisions, including a ban on denying boarding for a return flight when the outbound leg was not used, clearer fare transparency before booking, and reinforced rights for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility, children, unaccompanied minors and pregnant passengers. The regulation will enter into force 12 months and 20 days after publication in the Official Journal. The changes are relevant for tourism operators, destinations and transport stakeholders that depend on clear consumer rules and reliable air travel across the EU.
