The facility, developed by the national tourism authority with Leitrim County Council, offers year-round access to changing areas, showers, lockers and an induction space, and sits on the Shannon Blueway, a route used by walkers and cyclists. Accessibility and sustainability were built into the design, with full wheelchair access, solar heating panels and the county’s first Changing Places facility, and a funding strand added in 2025 pays for better access routes between arrival points, the facility and the waterfront.

The whole scheme represents €32 million of investment targeted at projects with the greatest potential to grow tourism. Besides visitors, the facility is intended to serve local swim clubs, schools and tour groups, which gives the investment a second use for residents, an approach that spreads the cost and benefits of outdoor tourism infrastructure across the whole year rather than only the peak season.
