Effective 7 July 2025, Poland will temporarily reintroduce border controls with Germany and Lithuania. This measure aims to address irregular border crossings and follows recent developments, including Germany’s introduction of stricter border policies and the presence of far-right patrols near the frontier. The decision was taken during a government meeting involving the Polish Border Guard.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasised the importance of upholding Schengen obligations through mutual cooperation. While the move has received support from Germany, it has raised concerns among neighbouring countries about potential impacts on European mobility.
