More than 70 researchers and practitioners met in Ljubljana on 14 September 2026 to compare how regenerative tourism is taking shape in different places, from Catalonia to Dalmatia. The forum concluded that destinations can learn from each other's approaches but need to adapt them to local conditions rather than replicate them.

Participants from tourism, culture, regenerative agriculture, public institutions and civil society presented very different starting points. In L'Escala in Catalonia, a pilot is working to revive traditional boat-building and repair skills alongside routes that support residents' wellbeing, as a response to seasonality and the loss of local knowledge. On Hvar, the Split-Dalmatia development agency is linking visitor experiences with local food production, regenerative agriculture, medicinal plants and cultural landscape, while Ljubljana examples included museum-led projects and the links between regenerative farming and tourism.
The forum was organised within the Regenera4MED project, which is developing shared Guiding Principles for Regenerative Tourism in the Mediterranean, a reflection tool called the Regenerative Tourism Journey, an integrated governance model and a training programme. Six pilot areas in Catalonia, Liguria, Abruzzo, Crete, Corsica and Split-Dalmatia now move into implementation, so destinations interested in the regenerative approach will soon be able to see how the principles perform in real local conditions.
