Having tested AI, IoT and data-driven tools for managing visitor flows across eight pilot sites in seven Mediterranean countries, TOURISMO has entered a Transfer Phase aimed at helping new destinations adopt the same solutions.

During its Testing Phase, TOURISMO piloted smart sensing systems, data analytics and AI-based tools to help public authorities manage visitor flows, reduce pressure on natural and cultural heritage sites, and improve quality of life for local communities. Rather than pushing a single model onto every destination, the Transfer Phase uses a "givers–receivers" approach: partners who already developed and tested TOURISMO's tools work directly with new participating territories to adapt the solutions to local conditions, sharing technical expertise and governance methods along the way.

The new phase focuses on transferring validated visitor-flow management tools, supporting their adaptation to different territorial contexts, and building the capacity of public authorities to use data in tourism planning. The project's approach has already been shared with EU-level audiences, including a presentation of its methodology at the III MED Sustainable Tourism Convention in Barcelona in June 2026, and policy recommendations shared with the European Commission, European Parliament and UN Tourism.
