Tourism destinations across Europe are increasingly facing complex challenges—from climate-related disruptions to digital security risks and public safety concerns. To help the sector prepare and respond effectively, UN Tourism has launched the SAFE-Destinations Challenge (SAFE-D), a new initiative aimed at finding scalable solutions that improve safety, crisis management and resilience in tourism.

The challenge seeks start-ups, innovators, public bodies and organisations developing tools and approaches that make travel and tourism safer and more sustainable. Eligible proposals may include early-warning and emergency response systems, data-driven tools for crisis management, risk communication platforms, or innovations in visitor safety and cybersecurity. Selected participants will receive tailored mentorship, international exposure and access to global networks supporting implementation and scale-up.

The SAFE-D Challenge is part of UN Tourism’s broader commitment to building a more resilient tourism ecosystem in Europe and beyond. It aligns with the organisation’s focus on safety, sustainability and innovation as the foundation for the sector’s long-term recovery and competitiveness.

Just two weeks remain to apply for the UN Tourism SAFE-D Challenge. If you are working on innovative, scalable solutions that improve tourism safety, crisis response or resilience, now is the time to act. From early-warning systems to cybersecurity tools, the call is open to bold ideas that can help destinations across Europe prepare for tomorrow’s emergencies.

Deadline: 31 October 2025.
Apply now and take the opportunity to make a real impact on the future of resilient tourism.
