UN Tourism reports 307 million international tourist arrivals worldwide in the first quarter of 2026, up 2% year on year. The update highlights conflict-related disruption, higher travel costs and a possible shift towards nearer destinations. The findings can help tourism authorities and businesses assess short-term market conditions and travel demand risks.

UN Tourism’s latest World Tourism Barometer reports 307 million international tourist arrivals worldwide in the first quarter of 2026, around 6 million more than in the same period of 2025. Europe recorded more than 130 million international tourists, a 4% increase, while the organisation notes that conflict in the Middle East affected March performance, aviation flows and traveller confidence. UN Tourism also indicates that higher oil prices, jet fuel shortages in some markets and rising transport and accommodation costs may redirect demand towards closer destinations. Its confidence index for May to August 2026 scored 105 out of 200, pointing to cautious expectations for the Northern Hemisphere summer season. The update provides tourism stakeholders with current evidence on international demand, connectivity pressures and market uncertainty.
