In an ambitious move, European universities, vocational education and training centers (VETs), and tourism businesses are collaborating on educational initiatives to significantly enhance the skills of the tourism workforce. Scheduled to begin in 2023, these initiatives focus on up/reskilling using established frameworks such as GreenComp and DigComp 2.2, targeting adaptability to digital and environmental transitions. The pledge aims to involve at least three universities and three VETs across three countries by 2025, expanding to six each by 2030, engaging over 200 learners to ensure resilience and competence in the evolving tourism sector. These efforts are crucial for preparing the workforce to tackle twin transitions—sustainability and digital transformation.
