CURRENT ACTIONS:
ETC strongly supports the notion of facilitating multi-modal travelling. Particularly where lower-carbon modes of transport are concerned, we see this as a crucial element of solving the problem of the ‘last mile’ and connecting tourists with less-touristed destinations. We are actively monitoring the work of the Commission in improving digital mobility services and will keep our members updated on the progress and impact of these efforts.
ETC has also worked on several initiatives to make multimodal travel more attractive to consumers, thus creating a greater market demand. Since 2021, we have organised, alongside Eurail, the Rail Tourism Awards. This prize recognises excellent marketing campaigns which promote rail as an attractive and sustainable mode of transportation for tourists.
FUTURE ACTIONS:
ETC will continue to promote lower-carbon means of transport to consumers and advocate for multimodal journeys to connect travellers with off-the-beaten-track destinations.
We will also continue collaborating with Eurail on the Rail Tourism Awards until at least 2030, adding a category for multimodal journeys in 2025.
OUTPUT:
Continue to work on the Rail Tourism Awards and implement a category for door-to-door multimodal travel arrangements.
TIME:
Ongoing organisation of Rail Tourism Awards: 4th edition in 2024, further editions at least until 2030
We expect further collaborations with Rail Europe in the coming years
