On 18 December 2024, the European Commission announced the adoption of a regulation establishing a Flight Emissions Label (FEL) to provide a clear and reliable method for calculating flight emissions. Airlines operating within or departing from the EU can voluntarily join this initiative by 1 February 2025. By early summer, passengers will be able to view and compare the estimated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of their flights, helping them make more informed purchasing decisions.

The Flight Emissions Label, which will be fully operational as of July 2025, aims to create a consistent and trustworthy methodology for estimating flight emissions, promoting fair competition among airlines, and supporting the aviation industry's transition to net-zero emissions.
