IndusTour emerges amid Europe's pressing challenges in tourism, such as the green transition and over-tourism in high-demand destinations. The project envisions a future where industrial tourism becomes central to sustainable growth, aligning with the EU's goals for a climate-neutral continent. By promoting visits to current and former industrial sites, IndusTour taps into the evolving demand for meaningful travel experiences that connect tourists with the historical and economic narratives of regions. At the heart of IndusTour is a robust agenda to reform public policies that bolster industrial tourism. The project lays the groundwork for innovation and diversification within the tourism sector, aiming to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of industrial sites. This includes cultivating regional ecosystems and fostering comprehensive policy improvements that encompass tourism strategies and ERDF-funded programmes.
The project brings together authorities from Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Poland, and the Republic of Serbia, symbolizing a unified commitment to transformative change. Over a span of three-year, these partners will engage in an interregional learning process to assess current tourism frameworks in their territories and identify successful practices, develop improved policy approaches that integrate industrial tourism, and strengthen institutional capacity to incorporate policy changes effectively.
IndusTour is bolstered by a €1,400,678 budget under the Interreg Europe programme, with the project having started in May 2025 and set to conclude in July 2029. This financial commitment underscores the collaborative effort to harness Europe's industrial heritage as a driver for economic and cultural enrichment. IndusTour positions itself as a catalyst for sustainable tourism, shaping Europe's travel experiences by embracing industrial heritage as a source of innovation and growth, all while nurturing partnerships and policy advancements essential for long-term success.
