Slovenian and Croatian towns test cross-border accessible tourism package

Brežice, Slovenia and Zaprešić, Croatia jointly ran a second pilot test of an accessible tourism product for people with disabilities, combining cultural, culinary and wellness experiences across both towns. The pilot is part of the EU-funded ENVIRO cross-border cooperation project.

Held on 12-13 May 2026 under the Interreg VI-A Slovenia-Croatia programme, the two-day pilot brought participants through the cultural heritage of both towns, guided experiences, local cuisine, and the thermal facilities at Terme Čatež, with an adapted electric van providing sustainable, accessible transport for people with varying needs throughout the programme. Local officials framed the pilot as evidence that accessibility can become a standard feature of a modern tourism offer rather than a separate add-on, with cross-border cooperation between the two neighbouring towns cited as a way to strengthen tourism development and joint capacity on both sides of the border.
