In a bid to reposition Greece's tourism offerings, a significant new campaign has been launched under the guidance of the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni. Known as "Mountainous Greece. It Lifts You High. All Year Round," this campaign aims to shine a spotlight on Greece's mountainous regions, traditionally underrated, and to turn them into thriving tourism hubs.

During a special event at the Ministry of Tourism, Minister Kefalogianni emphasized the strategic importance of this campaign for the nation. For the first time, Greece is setting forth a comprehensive promotional plan that aims to reveal and highlight a different facet of the country, emphasizing sustainability and balanced development across tourism sectors. This move is particularly focused on promoting diverse tourism forms, aiming for quality growth throughout the year across all regions.

A cornerstone of this strategy is a flagship project backed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, with a budget of approximately €90 million, expected to conclude by 2026. This project centers on the development of a digital platform tailored specifically to mountain tourism, designed to enhance the visibility and accessibility of these unique destinations. The platform will support the promotion of standalone mountain destinations, showcasing them as viable travel options beyond seasonal considerations.

In tandem with this digital initiative, infrastructure improvements, including ski resort enhancements, are set to elevate the visitor experience significantly. Moreover, the Ministry is fostering new tourism products that position mountain areas as sustainable destinations year-round. Ski resort operations will extend beyond winter, facilitating a broader array of tourism activities throughout the year.

Further bolstering this initiative, the "Tourism for All" program offers increased incentives for off-season travel, particularly highlighting autumn and early-year periods. This program encourages exploration of lesser-known mountain locations, further diversifying Greece’s tourism appeal.

The campaign's summer appeal is clear—Mountainous Greece is promoted as a holistic travel proposition, inviting domestic tourists initially with plans for international outreach. By doing so, it endeavors to enhance recognition and attractiveness, positioning Mountainous Greece not only as a tourist destination but also as a rejuvenating retreat that brings travelers closer to nature and themselves.

In conclusion, the Minister of Tourism urged collaboration among all stakeholders to give Mountainous Greece the recognition it rightfully deserves and to shape anew the image of Greek tourism.
