There's still an opportunity to join the fuTOURiSME Sustainability Systems Week! This exciting event is designed to support tourism SMEs in turning their sustainability dreams into everyday actions. As part of the larger fuTOURiSME project, it provides a friendly and practical way to explore the exciting ‘twin transition” in tourism—blending sustainability with digital innovation. Held online over four engaging sessions, the week offers an easy-to-understand and actionable approach to sustainability. Attendees will explore vital topics such as incorporating ESG principles into daily operations, sharing sustainability stories effectively, and understanding certification systems and frameworks tailored to tourism businesses.

A core aspect of the program is its focus on practical application. Instead of just covering abstract ideas, the sessions use real-world examples, tools, and step-by-step guidance tailored specifically for SMEs. This includes a sustainability self-assessment tool to help businesses gauge their current status and plan next steps. The initiative is part of the broader fuTOURiSME project, co-funded by the EU Single Market Programme. It aims to help tourism SMEs adapt to post-COVID-19 market changes by developing innovative services, business models, and skills related to sustainability and digitalisation. The Sustainability Systems Week is a key capacity-building activity within this framework, addressing a major EU challenge: many tourism SMEs recognise the importance of sustainability but lack the knowledge, tools, and resources to implement it effectively.

The training also tackles the complexity of the sustainability landscape. With many certifications, standards, and frameworks available, it can be hard for businesses to understand what's relevant and how to engage with them. The program helps clarify these elements, making it easier for SMEs to make informed decisions and proceed confidently. The event is free and fully online, which makes it accessible to a broad range of participants across Europe. While designed primarily for tourism SMEs, it is also relevant for destination managers, consultants, and other sector stakeholders. From a European perspective, initiatives like this are vital for turning policy goals into action. Although strategies such as the EU Transition Pathway for Tourism highlight sustainability and digitalisation, practical support is necessary to ensure SMEs can actively participate in this transition.

By emphasising skills, tools, and peer learning, the Sustainability Systems Week helps build a more resilient and competitive tourism ecosystem. It enables businesses to reduce their environmental footprint and develop stronger, more future-proof value propositions.

Ultimately, the message is clear: sustainability in tourism doesn't have to be complicated—it just needs action. This initiative offers the support needed to take that crucial next step.
