On 13 August 2026, the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) announced that 17 vertical final draft standards developed under the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) are now under Public Enquiry, aiming to become Harmonised Standards that give manufacturers a recognised route to demonstrate CRA compliance, the so-called presumption of conformity.

The ETSI EN 304 xxx series has been submitted to 41 member organisations across the European Economic Area, along with ETSI's societal partners representing consumers, environmental groups, trade unions and small businesses, with the approval procedure running from mid-September to mid-November 2026 depending on the specific standard. This ETSI-led work covers connected products with digital elements generally and runs in parallel to CEN and CENELEC's separate work re-citing machinery-specific harmonised standards under the Machinery Regulation, so machinery manufacturers building connected or software-enabled equipment will need to track both standardisation tracks to demonstrate compliance once the CRA's main obligations apply from the end of 2027. CEN, CENELEC and ETSI are jointly running the CRA Standards Unlocked EU Tour, a series of workshops to help SMEs understand which standards apply to them and how to participate in the ongoing consultations.
