Eurostat's first estimates, published 13 August 2026, show seasonally adjusted industrial production was stable month-on-month in the euro area and rose 0.2% in the EU in June 2026, but capital goods, the category covering machinery and equipment, fell 1.4% in the euro area and 0.9% in the EU compared with May.

The monthly decline in capital goods contrasted with gains in energy and non-durable consumer goods, which drove the overall headline increase. On an annual basis the picture was less negative: capital goods production was up 0.1% year-on-year in the euro area and 0.9% in the EU compared with June 2025, though this was a marked slowdown from the 2.9% and 3.3% annual growth rates recorded just a month earlier in May. Germany's total industrial production rose 0.2% month-on-month and fell 0.5% year-on-year, while the largest monthly gains across the EU were in Denmark (+5.4%) and Croatia (+5.2%), and the largest declines in Luxembourg (-10.7%) and Portugal (-3.9%).
