The candidate IPCEI could eventually cover AI chips and accelerators, photonic integrated circuits, sensors, power electronics, energy-efficient solutions and secure communication, spanning the full semiconductor value chain including equipment, testing and materials. This is still at the candidate stage, not a confirmed programme, but worth flagging early: power electronics and sensors are core components inside machinery and robotics, and an eventual IPCEI designation would open a state-aid-backed funding route that goes beyond what the existing Chips Act pilot lines alone can offer to component suppliers in this ecosystem.
