The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) and Catena-X launched the Data Space Accelerator in Berlin on 8 June 2026, a €23 million programme funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, designed to generate real evidence of how industrial data spaces create value once enough companies actually take part.

Why this matters for the ecosystem: industrial data spaces let manufacturers share data with suppliers and customers on their own terms, without handing control to a single platform provider - but until now, most of the evidence for their value has come from small pilots rather than real operating conditions. This programme pays participating companies directly for reaching verified milestones: up to EUR 15,000 for onboarding and implementing Certificate Management, and a further EUR 15,000 for a second predefined use case, with no prior data-space experience required. It sits within Germany's wider Manufacturing-X framework, and although the initial rollout runs through the automotive-focused Catena-X network, the programme is explicitly designed to produce insights transferable to other manufacturing subsectors, including chemicals and semiconductors - making it relevant well beyond the automotive supply chain it starts in.
