Play Verto is a UK-based digital platform that reimagines data collection through gamification, transforming how organisations engage with diverse communities. By using interactive activities and games, Play Verto makes the process of gathering data more accessible, engaging, and inclusive. This innovative approach not only increases participation across a wider demographic but also removes barriers traditionally associated with formal research methods, particularly among groups who may feel excluded or overlooked.

At the heart of Play Verto’s model is a commitment to transparency, informed consent, and user empowerment. Individuals who take part in the platform’s activities are given clear information about how their data will be used and have full control over whether or not they wish to share it. This fosters a strong sense of self-determination, enabling participants to make conscious, informed choices about their involvement and the potential social impact of their anonymised data.

Democratic participation is another core principle underpinning the Play Verto platform. Users are not only involved in providing data but also in contributing to the interpretation and application of that data. The platform facilitates dialogue and feedback, ensuring a two-way exchange between participants and stakeholders. In doing so, Play Verto creates space for diverse voices to influence decision-making processes and the outcomes of research initiatives.

Inclusivity is central to the platform’s design. By using gamified formats and supporting 65 languages—reaching roughly 75% of the global population—Play Verto significantly broadens the reach and accessibility of data collection. This commitment ensures that people from varied backgrounds can engage meaningfully with the platform, contributing valuable insights that might otherwise go unheard.

Play Verto gamifies data collection:

Imagine a community consultation on climate change policies. Instead of filling out a long traditional survey, users engage with a story-driven game that presents real-world scenarios—like choosing how a fictional town should respond to flooding or where to invest limited public funds (e.g. green spaces, renewable energy, or housing upgrades).

As players make choices, they receive instant visual feedback on the potential consequences of each decision (e.g. “Your town reduced carbon emissions by 30%” or “Community wellbeing improved, but environmental risk increased”). These choices are then anonymously recorded as data points reflecting user values, priorities, and preferences. Along the way, players can earn virtual tokens or unlock new “missions,” and are encouraged to reflect on their decisions. This makes the experience more immersive, accessible, and engaging—especially for younger or less traditionally engaged participants. This gamified approach turns passive survey-taking into an active, reflective experience, while still generating rich, structured data for analysis.

Through its innovative and ethical approach, Play Verto positions itself as a vital tool in the digital research and analytics landscape, championing inclusive participation, informed consent, and democratic engagement in the pursuit of meaningful social change.
