In December 2024, the Interreg Europe programme released an in-depth overview of the Porikuu Festival, an annual event in north-western Estonia that offers a wide range of experiences stretching from Estonia's capital, Tallinn, to the coastal resort town of Haapsalu. Initiated by Lääne-Harju Municipality in partnership with the Western Harju Cooperation Group, four local municipalities, and key stakeholders in western Estonia’s tourism sector, the event has been recognised as a model of good practice for effectively addressing the challenges of seasonal tourism and overcrowded destinations in Estonia.

In 2022, the festival attracted over 7,000 participants from both Estonia and abroad, drawing attention to lesser-known areas between Tallinn and Haapsalu. Through activities such as hikes, concerts, workshops, theatre performances, and fairs, the event showcases the region’s local culture, natural beauty, and creative spirit.
