We run several operational excellence initiatives to improve or convert our assets. We continuously invest in the improvement of processes for existing plants to reduce emissions. With an automation project in the nitric acid plant we will save 145,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalents per year. In the future, as much as 99.9% of the emissions will be avoided. The aim is to emit 550 metric tons less N2O per year. N2O, commonly known as laughing gas, is a highly potent greenhouse gas. The project has been implemented in 2021 in a nitric acid plant in Ludwigshafen Germany processing the off-gas from the adjacent adipic acid plant. In 2022 we have already saved emissions of more than 100.000 t CO2 equivalents, and we will achieve the full potential before 2030.
