The European Commission has published a comprehensive study examining the state of the EU’s net-zero manufacturing industry. The analysis focuses on key technologies essential for Europe’s clean energy transition such as solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps, batteries, and electrolysers and provides a detailed assessment of the industrial capabilities required to meet future demand. The study identifies significant gaps between current EU production capacities and the volumes needed by 2030, drawing attention to areas where investment and policy support will be critical. It also explores dependencies on imports, cost structures, and other market factors that influence Europe’s ability to compete globally in net-zero technologies. By outlining where and how strategic investments can help scale up manufacturing, the report supports the objectives of the Net-Zero Industry Act and offers valuable guidance for industrial stakeholders, including those in the chemicals sector. The findings aim to help policymakers, industry actors, and investors make informed decisions to strengthen Europe’s industrial resilience and technological leadership in the clean energy transition.
