Huntsman Corporation won the AI-era Responsible Care category for its ECHA Radar Tool, an internally developed system that automatically updates and cross-references ECHA's regulatory lists on a weekly basis. For chemical companies that must screen hundreds of substances against constantly evolving REACH, CLP and other EU lists, often manually, the tool illustrates how digital automation can turn a resource-intensive compliance task into something closer to real-time monitoring.

According to Huntsman's European innovation centre in Tienen, Belgium, the tool reduced a screening process that previously took a week per substance to about an hour, allowing the company to screen its full portfolio of around 500 substances, whether owned or belonging to a customer, in a way that was previously not practically feasible. With a single query, users can generate a summary of a substance's status across multiple regulatory lists, highlight changes made in the past three months, or flag ongoing regulatory actions with deadlines and their likely implications, functionality aimed at both product development teams evaluating a new substance and companies looking to substitute one substance for another as part of Safe and Sustainable by Design assessments.
The tool has separately been recognised with the American Chemistry Council's own Responsible Care Prize, suggesting its relevance extends beyond the EU regulatory context it was originally built for. For an industry where regulatory tracking has traditionally relied on specialist consultancies or dedicated in-house regulatory affairs teams, Huntsman's tool points to a broader trend of chemical companies building their own digital infrastructure to keep pace with an EU chemicals regulatory landscape that changes on a near-continuous basis.
