The European Housing Alliance aims to link the European, national, regional and local levels so that housing know-how and successful approaches can be exchanged, scaled up and translated into concrete action. Rather than serving as another consultation forum, the Alliance is designed to actively reinforce, align and amplify efforts already undertaken at national, regional and local level - in a way that respects the diversity of housing systems across the EU.
Its work rests on four principles: subsidiarity, open and transparent participation, flexibility focused on substance, and the combination of political and expert-level cooperation. The Alliance is designed to add value to - rather than overlap with - existing bodies like the European Platform on Combatting Homelessness, and will build on the European Housing Policy Network set up by the Netherlands. A pan-European mutual learning initiative bringing together Member States, cities, industry and NGOs is scheduled to begin in 2027. For the construction ecosystem, this offers a structured space to engage with EU-level policy on affordability, housing supply and quality.
Membership is reserved for organisations rather than private individuals; entities representing tenants, owners, cooperatives, young people and other housing-related interests are explicitly welcomed. Registration of interest can be submitted at any time through the online form. The first information meeting is planned for 19 June 2026 to discuss how the Alliance will operate in practice - those interested in attending without committing to membership can sign up via a dedicated event form.
