UNECE has published a document on systemic approaches to sustainable buildings. It was prepared by the Co-Chairs of the Joint Task Force on Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings, in collaboration with the secretariats of the UNECE Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency and the Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management. The document outlines recent and proposed activities of the Task Force, with a particular focus on the collaborative update of the Framework Guidelines for Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings. It highlights the role of the Guidelines in promoting affordable, energy-efficient and resilient housing through integrated policies on building retrofits, sustainable finance, renewable energy, digitalization and climate resilience. The document will also serve as background for a moderated panel discussion at the Committee's 87th session in Geneva on 14–16 October 2026.
