In a recent Panorama article, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) examines how cohesion policy is contributing to efforts to address housing shortages and improve housing conditions across the EU. The article highlights the growing challenges linked to rising housing costs, ageing housing stock and the need to adapt buildings to climate-related risks.  

The article also explains how cohesion policy funding is being directed towards affordable and sustainable housing initiatives, including energy-efficiency improvements, social housing projects and neighborhood regeneration. Following the mid-term review of cohesion policy programmes, additional funding has been redirected to housing investments, reinforcing support for local and regional authorities working to improve access to quality housing and strengthen community resilience.
