The European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group have jointly launched a pioneering pan-European investment platform dedicated to promoting affordable and sustainable housing. This initiative responds to the increasing housing crisis across Europe and aligns with the EU’s Green Deal and social goals.

The platform aims to mobilise significant public and private investments to build or renovate 1.5 million housing units with a strong focus on energy efficiency, inclusiveness, and affordability. It will offer a mix of technical assistance and innovative financial instruments to help local authorities, national promotional banks, and private actors develop sustainable housing projects.

By combining financial support with policy alignment, the platform encourages long-term collaboration between various stakeholders. It also supports the EU’s climate neutrality targets, the Renovation Wave, and the transition towards a just and green built environment for all Europeans.

This step is a milestone in the transition pathway for the construction ecosystem – ensuring that housing contributes to sustainability, resilience, and social cohesion.
