Drawing on EIB and other EU sources, the resource maps Europe's housing pressures: costs have outpaced incomes since 2019, making homes around 20% less affordable in 2022 than in 2015, especially for first-time buyers. Nearly half of EU housing predates 1980 and is costlier to run and maintain, while only a small share dates from after 2011. The EIB Investment and Finance Survey also shows an innovation gap 76% of construction companies report no innovation versus 68% across all sectors, and fewer than 7% deliver market-leading innovations.

The EIB Group's response spans EU-wide investments and partnerships, with over 84,000 newly built and 580,000 renovated homes in its 2021–2025 portfolio. Users can explore financing by country, housing statistics, research papers, practical resources and key publications, including gender-inclusive public social housing and social and affordable housing.
