During the 2026 eceee Summer Study, representatives from Guidehouse and the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) facilitated a discussion on the future development of the EU Building Stock Observatory (BSO). The workshop explored how the platform could evolve into a more effective data hub supporting buildings policy, EPBD implementation and national renovation strategies.
Participants identified opportunities to improve the Observatory through more detailed building-stock data, enhanced geospatial capabilities and stronger links with socio-economic indicators such as affordability and vulnerability. Discussions also highlighted the potential of the BSO to support future priorities including heating and cooling planning; grid needs assessment and policy monitoring.
